China and the United States reach consensus on economic and trade issues

The two heads of state positively evaluated the positive and effective consultations recently conducted by the economic and trade teams of the two sides. The two sides believe that a healthy and stable Sino-US economic and trade relationship is in the common interest of the two countries and the world.

The two sides decided to stop the trade restrictions such as upgrading tariffs, including not raising the existing tariff rate for each other, and not introducing new tariff-adding measures for other commodities.

The two sides agreed to immediately address each other's concerns in a spirit of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit. In accordance with the requirements of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, China will further take measures to deepen reform and expand opening up. In the process, some economic and trade issues that the US is concerned about will be resolved. At the same time, the US will also actively resolve the economic and trade issues of concern to China.

The two heads of state instructed the economic and trade teams of the two sides to intensify consultations and reach an agreement to cancel the tariffs imposed this year and push bilateral economic and trade relations back to normal track as soon as possible to achieve a win-win situation.

According to Xinhua News Agency, on the evening of December 1, local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a Chinese and foreign press conference in Buenos Aires to introduce the just-concluded first meeting of the US dollar.

Wang Yi said that on the evening of December 1, President Xi Jinping was invited to have dinner and meet with President Trump in Buenos Aires. This meeting is a reunion of the heads of state of China and the United States since the meeting in Beijing last November. The two heads of state conducted two-and-a-half-hour in-depth exchanges in a friendly and frank atmosphere, far exceeding the scheduled time. The meeting was very successful and reached important consensus, which pointed out the direction for Sino-US relations in the coming period.

Wang Yi said that during the meeting, President Xi Jinping pointed out that China and the United States, as two major powers, have a greater responsibility in promoting world peace and prosperity. Cooperation is the best choice for both sides. The two heads of state agreed that Sino-US relations must be done well and they will certainly do a good job. The two sides agreed to promote Sino-US relations based on coordination, cooperation and stability. The two heads of state will maintain close contacts through visits, meetings, calls, and communications to jointly lead the development of Sino-US relations. The two sides will conduct mutual visits again in due course. The two sides are willing to work together to promote exchanges and cooperation in various fields between the two countries to achieve more results.

Wang Yi said that the discussions on economic and trade issues between the two sides were very positive and constructive. The two heads of state reached a consensus and stopped adding new tariffs to each other. The two sides proposed a series of constructive plans on how to properly resolve existing differences and problems. China is willing to expand imports according to the needs of the domestic market and the people, including the purchase of marketable goods from the United States, and gradually ease the trade imbalance.

Wang Yi said that the two sides agreed to open up the market to each other and gradually resolve the legitimate concerns of the US in the process of advancing a new round of reform and opening up. The working teams of the two sides will, in accordance with the principled consensus reached by the two heads of state, step in the direction of canceling all tariff increases, intensify consultations, and reach a concrete agreement on mutual benefit and win-win as soon as possible.

Both sides believe that the above-mentioned principled consensus is of great significance, not only effectively preventing the further expansion of economic and trade frictions, but also opening up new prospects for mutual cooperation and win-win; it is not only conducive to the respective development of China and the United States and the well-being of the people, but also beneficial to the world. The steady growth of the economy is in the interest of all countries. Facts have proved that the common interests between China and the United States are greater than differences, and the need for cooperation is greater than friction. As long as the two sides adhere to the spirit of mutual respect, take care of each other's concerns, and engage in serious dialogue with an equal attitude, we can find a solution to the problem of cooperation and win-win.

The two sides also agreed to take positive actions to strengthen law enforcement and anti-drug cooperation, including the control of fentanyl substances. The measures taken by China to date have been fully affirmed by the international community including the United States. The Chinese side decided to conduct a full-line management of fentanyl substances and initiate adjustment procedures for relevant regulations.
