Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge opened "full moon"

Safe and convenient, smooth and orderly

According to Wu Chungeng, spokesperson of the Ministry of Transport, there are three main characteristics in the passing of vehicles: First, the vehicles passing through the bridge are mainly passenger cars, with passenger cars accounting for 97.58% and trucks accounting for 2.42%. Among them, shuttle buses and minibuses accounted for 44.97% and 30.54% respectively. Second, the proportion of non-stop charges is high. Electronic non-stop charges accounted for 80.22% of the toll vehicles. Third, the weekend peak features are obvious. The daily peaks are mainly concentrated between 10 am and 12 am and between 17 and 19 pm.

Mr. Yau Teng-hua, Director of the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, said that the Hong Kong Government has been closely monitoring the inbound and outbound traffic of the bridge, the flow of people and the operation of the Hong Kong port. According to the experience of the past few weekends, about one-fifth of the passengers entering the bridge at the Hong Kong port have not switched to public transport to leave the port to the urban area. This shows that the main purpose of many passengers is to experience the bridge. Entering Hong Kong, the SAR Government is working with the mainland to open the East Manila Island to the above-mentioned tour groups so that they can visit the bridge without entering Hong Kong and return to Zhuhai or Macau from the East Artificial Island. In addition, the Hong Kong Government is in the process of arranging the establishment of temporary small shops or booths in the Bridge Port Inspection Building to allow passengers to purchase handwritten messages.

In view of the fact that the number of passengers coming to Hong Kong via the bridge is concentrated in Tung Chung, Qiu Tenghua suggested that in the future, the artificial island of the East Bridge could be opened to divert the tourists from the mainland. As a result, mainland tourists who enter Hong Kong via the bridge will be more inclined to spend the night or go to the scenic spot. I believe it will help alleviate the problem of too many people in Tung Chung. He hoped that the governments of the two places will continue to strengthen cooperation and communication, so that the bridge tour group will become more standardized and promote the healthy development of tourism in the two places.

Bringing opportunities for Hong Kong tourism

Qiu Tenghua said recently that in the past four weeks, the total number of inbound tour groups passing through the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge has increased from about 70 in the first week to over 700 in the most recent week. The Hong Kong SAR Legislative Council travel industry member Yao Sirong said that the number of mainland tourists coming to Hong Kong via the bridge has exceeded his previous expectations, and the future trend is expected to gradually stabilize. If the structure of the Mainland passengers can be adjusted, the proportion of overnight visitors and the number of round-trip passengers on the same day will be roughly half, which will bring benefits to Hong Kong's tourism industry and related industries.

Yao Sirong pointed out that more than half of the mainland tourists are still returning to the mainland by the bridge on the same day. By taking measures, if the number of overnight visitors can be increased, it will help the passengers to divert. "Inland tourists who stay in Hong Kong for one night or more will go to scenic spots, shopping malls, commercial streets and other places, and will also bring direct benefits to Hong Kong's tourism, hotels, restaurants, retail and other industries."

In Yao Sirong's view, as the mainland passenger market coming to Hong Kong via the bridge continues to mature, Hong Kong's travel agencies should be more proactive in promoting the “green tourism”, “cultural heritage tourism”, “island tourism” and other in-depth routes. Go to the Pearl River Delta region and grasp the opportunities that the bridge brings to Hong Kong's tourism industry.

The industry is full of expectations for business opportunities

With the opening of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, the infinite business opportunities that followed have also filled the industry with expectations. Guo Shaoming, chairman and chief executive officer of Hong Kong beauty retailer Salsa International, said, "Sasha is a city, it must be crowded, business is good!" After the high-speed rail Hong Kong section was officially opened to traffic, it led the store business in West Kowloon Station. Recently, the company has arrived. The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge will investigate the environment and observe the flow of people. It will continue to study the opening of the store near the high-speed rail and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. It is expected that the infrastructure projects will have a positive effect on Hong Kong retail sales.

The logistics industry in the three places also ushered in new opportunities. Hu Cheng, executive director of Zhuguang Free Trade Zone Nanguang Logistics Co., Ltd. believes that the bridge has attracted Hong Kong’s “Qingquan” for Zhuhai. In the past, Zhuhai and Macao were at the end of the logistics chain. The fall of the bridge has brought new opportunities to the two places. Through the development of cross-border e-commerce, it promotes cross-border logistics cooperation between the three places.
