LVCVA unveils design for Las Vegas Convention Center expansion

Architects presented design drawings for the expansion to the LVCC to the board of directors of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA), 11 April. “This is one of the most important days in the history of the LVCVA,” said Rossi Ralenkotter, LVCVA chief executive officer.

“Southern Nevada’s economy is driven by tourism and this expansion will propel our convention centre forward to enable us to maintain our status as the number one trade show destination in North America,” added Ralenkotter.

Slated for completion in time to welcome CES in 2021, LVCCD’s phase two expansion project (costing US$860m) is set to add around 130,064sqm to the current convention centre facility, including at least 55,741sqm of new, leasable exhibit space.

Phase three will be the complete renovation of the existing 297,289sqm facility, with a projected completion date of 2023. The phased approach will ensure that no business will be displaced during the construction and renovation.

LVCVA staff worked in partnership with Cordell Corporation principal Terry Miller, the agency’s contracted owner’s representative, to develop the vision for the expansion and renovation project.

Including indirect and induced impacts, the LVCC’s attendees generated US$2.1bn in economic impact throughout the local economy. The tourism industry plays a vital role in Southern Nevada economy and generates $60bn in total economic impact.
